Wolfe impresses with skills, but he’s only warming up

Friday, August 31st, 2007
Garrett Wolfe, the 3rd round, 93rd overall pick of the 2007 Draft pick by the Bears, has been a player that had been coming from behind the spotlight of Cedric Benson and Adrian Peterson to show what skills he's got in the preseason. Though a lingering hamstring injury from his senior year had plagued him in the beginning of training camp, Wolfe has slowly, but surely, been proving some doubters and impressing some critics with his paitient tenacity for wanting to succeed in the NFL.

Throughout the preseason, Wolfe has been the leading rusher for the Bears, picking up 104 yards in 39 carries through the preseason. His receiving yardage is also impressive, picking up an average 6 yards per reception. But Wolfe didn't get to really shine until this past preseason game against Cleveland, which not only got him 53 yards in 6 catches, but showed the league that his 5'7" frame can put down and block defenders that have at least 50 lbs on him size-wise.

Jerry Angelo (who, coincidentally was also coached by NIU's Jow Novak, who found Wolfe and made him a star) has said that one of the reasons the Bears had drafted Wolfe was because of his vision and his speed, and that he admits seeing flashes of Warrick Dunn-like ability in Wolfe during training camp. The whiff he caused a Browns defender Thursday night was just one of many occasions that Wolfe's shiftiness and speed has made him more wiley than a fox for a defender to catch. The Browns game was the first time this talent has been made public for the national eye to see.

However, Northern Illinois fans (like myself) can surely say that the best has yet to come. Wolfe is only beginning to warm up to his new role as a backup in the NFL and not the star of the team. Wolfe has a tendency to start off on low heat, then get hotter and hotter as the season progresses. This will only be greater now that he needs to prove to coaches that he can become a starter, and this reporter can say she's personally seen Wolfe's tenacity to succeed at what he wants.

Wolfe is only getting started; he will take off like a rocket as time goes by.
Cedric and Adrian better keep their eyes open and wary... Wolfe will have no problem proving he's the better man if he stays healthy.

Chicago Bears Training Camp is in full swing

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Oh Yeah! It’s as close to football as we’re going to get!!! It’s training camp!

While there isn’t any earth shattering going on, you can certainly tell that the offense is ready to take the field. The energy from the offensive unit is something most Chicago Bears fans, aren’t used to.

Whether it’s Devin Hester, Cedric Benson, Greg Olsen, or any other new comer, you are almost guaranteed to see aggressive game play from that unit.

We aren’t sure what will come from all this energy, but one things for sure, we are off to one heck of a start.

With Rex throwing like he’s an all-American star, and the weapons catching anything even close, it’s sure to be explosive here real soon.

On the other side of the ball, there hasn’t been much to talk about. Yeah, we signed Darwin Walker, and Lance Briggs. The unit is just as solid, if not more so than last year.

On thing is for certain, we’ve come to expect a solid performance from the defensive side. So maybe this is why there isn’t much to talk about right now. Well, here are a couple of shots from the camp.
